Unplugged!

I am proud to say that my husband and I are officially unplugged. Whenever we leave the house, we turn the power strip off to the tv/dvd player and the computer.

That's Recyclable??

This holiday week - some festive colored hershey kisses sat at the one table. Did you know that the wrapper is recyclable?? What are other everyday items that you can recycle?

Programming the Thermostat

It's getting pretty cold outside! With the cost of electric going up and trying to be more energy efficient, our ALL ELECTRIC house now has a heat pump. Essentially, even when the temperature outside is really cold, the heat pump can extract some heat and send it into the house. Pretty cool!

We set the temperature to 62 degrees. You can't walk around our house in a t-shirt and shorts, you definately need to wear pants and a sweatshirt - that's okay! It works for us.

Reducing Shower Time

That's the first on my list - reducing shower time.

In the challenge, it says "Did you know that the average shower length is 8 minutes? By reducing that to 5 minutes, you can reduce the amount of water you use by nearly one-third, or roughly 10 gallons per day. Commit to decreasing your regular shower time to 5 minutes -- and take occasional baths, which uses less water. "

Okay - I am not a bath person, so that's out. But, I can take less than a 5 minute shower. Definately do-able. But what happens if I take two a day, once in the morning, once after the gym? I guess that means a 4 minute shower in the morning and a quick rinse in the evening. That works for me.

I can check that one off. Next, I will time my husband's shower and see how he does!
